Case Study | Expanding Reach Through Digital Cover Strategy

Objective

As HelloBeautiful continued expanding its digital cover franchise, I spearheaded the social strategy around each launch with a focus on increasing reach, driving traffic to the cover stories, and building stronger engagement around the featured talent.

The goal was to treat each cover as a coordinated social campaign rather than a single editorial launch, using social-first content, talent collaboration, and platform-specific distribution to extend the life and impact of each feature.

Challenge

I noticed that cover talent often generated significantly more engagement when promoting their features on their own social channels than HelloBeautiful received when sharing the same stories from the brand account.

That revealed a clear opportunity: instead of relying primarily on reposts and traditional promotion, I could build a more collaborative rollout that connected HelloBeautiful directly with the talent’s audience while still strengthening the brand’s own reach, engagement, and traffic.

The challenge was creating a repeatable social framework that could support editorial goals while also making each cover launch feel bigger, more coordinated, and more native to social.

Strategy

I led the development of a more intentional social rollout around HelloBeautiful’s digital covers, treating each launch as a multi-touch campaign.

I incorporated Instagram’s Collaboration feature into the strategy so select cover content could live on both the HelloBeautiful and talent profiles, combining audience exposure and engagement around a single post rather than relying on reposts alone.

I also planned social content ahead of launch and coordinated with editorial, video, production, and talent teams to secure social-first assets. That included identifying opportunities for behind-the-scenes content, short-form video, additional social posts, and platform-specific copy that could extend the cover beyond launch day.

I used performance from each rollout to refine future launches and build a stronger, repeatable framework around what content, distribution tactics, and talent partnerships drove the best results.

My Role:

As Social Media Lead, I owned the social strategy and rollout for HelloBeautiful digital covers.

My responsibilities included:

  • Leading the social strategy for cover launches
  • Identifying opportunities to expand talent reach through Instagram Collaboration posts
  • Developing platform-specific rollout plans and copy
  • Coordinating with editorial, production, video, and talent teams ahead of launch
  • Identifying and securing social-first assets
  • Extending cover campaigns beyond launch day through additional content
  • Monitoring performance and using results to refine future rollouts
  • Balancing editorial traffic goals with audience growth, engagement, and brand visibility
  • I also introduced questionnaire-style video content as a recurring social element for cover launches. I developed the concept to create more personality-driven, social-first moments with each cover star, then worked with the social team to shape questions that felt timely, engaging, and specific to the talent. The videos were integrated into behind-the-scenes coverage to give audiences a more personal connection to the cover star and extend the life of the shoot beyond the main feature.

    Results:

    Marsai Martin Digital Cover

After identifying the opportunity to better connect HelloBeautiful with cover talent audiences, I implemented the Instagram Collaboration strategy for Marsai Martin’s digital cover.

    The rollout generated:

    1.55M impressions
    156K+ engagements
    1,660 social post clicks

The cover became HelloBeautiful’s highest-performing digital cover of the year.

    Tia Mowry Digital Cover

I carried the strategy into future cover launches, including Tia Mowry’s digital cover, demonstrating that the approach could be repeated across different talent and campaigns.

    The rollout generated:

    580K+ impressions
    28.8K+ engagements
    413 social post clicks

    Impact

By shifting digital cover promotion from a standard editorial rollout into a coordinated social campaign, I created a stronger connection between HelloBeautiful, its talent, and their audiences.

The strategy expanded reach, increased engagement, supported traffic back to the editorial features, and created a repeatable framework that could be applied across future cover launches.

    Key Takeaway

The strategy proved that treating talent-driven editorial moments as social campaigns, rather than one-time article promotions, could significantly extend their reach and impact. By combining social-first planning, cross-functional coordination, and talent collaboration, I built a stronger rollout model that supported both audience growth and editorial goals.

      HelloBeautiful Cover Questionnaires

      Objective

To lead the rollout of an original creative concept I developed for HelloBeautiful’s digital cover strategy: questionnaire-style videos released alongside cover launches. The goal was to create more interactive, personality-driven social content that strengthened audience connection with each cover star, increased engagement, and helped build a more active follower community.

      • Original Concept: I developed the questionnaire video concept as a recurring social element for HelloBeautiful’s digital cover launches. I refined the format so each set of questions felt engaging, timely, and tailored to the cover star’s personality.
      • Content Development: I worked with the social team to develop questions designed to encourage genuine, relatable responses while giving each cover star room to answer in their own voice.
      • Behind-the-Scenes Integration: I integrated the questionnaire videos into existing behind-the-scenes coverage, creating an additional social-first touchpoint that helped audiences connect with the cover star beyond the main feature.
